75 questions · 300 marks · 3 hours
Computer-based test. Physics, Chemistry and Maths carry 25 questions each: 20 MCQs plus 5 numerical-value questions, and all 5 numericals are compulsory.
+4 correct · −1 wrong · 0 skipped
Under the 2025–26 pattern, wrong numerical answers also lose a mark, so blind guessing is risky. Accuracy beats attempting everything.
Rank comes from your NTA percentile
NTA normalises every shift. In 2026, 99 percentile needed about 152 to 192 marks depending on the shift, around 174 on average.
Two attempts a year: January and April
Write both and your better percentile is used, so the second attempt can only help. About 15.4 lakh unique candidates appeared in 2026.
Top 2,50,000 candidates qualify
Cutoffs are category-wise percentiles. In 2026 the General cutoff was 93.41 and Gen-EWS 82.42 percentile. Advanced leads to the IITs.
75% aggregate (65% SC/ST/PwD)
Recent JoSAA norms also accept the top 20 percentile of your board. Check your aggregate with the free Class 12 calculator above.
Each subject is worth 100 marks. The Syllabus section lists every official unit, with a plain-language explanation, a worked example and exam tips for each topic.

The best JEE preparation app is the one you will actually open every day, so look for four things: tests in the real JEE Main format (75 questions, 300 marks, +4 and −1 marking), honest score and rank prediction, topic-level weak-area detection, and a price you understand. SJ JEE is built around exactly these: a Real Exam Mode with 75 questions, 180 minutes and official marking, analytics that show your weak topics, and a projected score out of 300 from your own attempts. Download it free and try it before you choose a plan.
SJ JEE is free to download from Google Play. The free plan includes Practice Set 1, the full syllabus, planner, timetable, notes and analytics, and you can take Real Exam Mode on Set 1 once. A one-time 24-hour trial adds more Real Exams, one AI Challenge, WiFi Challenge matches and the leaderboard. The calculators on this page are free with no sign-up. Everything else unlocks with one of two plans: ₹395 for 6 months or ₹720 for 1 year.
Yes. Many aspirants build concepts from NCERT books and free video lectures. What free resources usually lack is timed, exam-pattern testing with analysis, which is where a test app helps. A sensible split is to learn concepts from free lectures and books, then use SJ JEE for timed practice, weak-area tracking and score prediction.
JEE Main is a 3-hour computer-based test with 75 questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each with 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions) for 300 marks. It is held twice a year, in January and April, and your better NTA score counts. SJ JEE is designed around this exact format: Real Exam Mode runs 75 questions in 180 minutes with the official marking, and Half Mock and Sectional modes cover shorter sessions. Confirm the exact dates on the NTA website once the new information bulletin is out.
JEE Advanced is a separate, harder paper that you can sit only after qualifying through JEE Main, which sends roughly the top 2,50,000 candidates forward using category-wise percentile cutoffs. SJ JEE is built around the JEE Main format, the first gate and also the exam that decides NIT, IIIT and GFTI admission through JoSAA. Use it to secure your Main percentile, and use the Rank and JEE Advanced tab on this page to see where you stand against the 2026 cutoffs.
Look for full-length and sectional tests, a real timer, and analysis that tells you which topics lost you marks. SJ JEE offers Real Exam Mode (75 questions, 180 minutes), a 39-question Half Mock, 25-question Sectional tests and Custom length tests, plus analytics that point to your weak topics. In the last three months before the exam, most toppers recommend two to three full tests a week and a careful review of each one.
Unacademy and similar platforms are lecture-first: they teach concepts through video courses. SJ JEE is practice-first: timed tests, analysis and score prediction. They solve different problems, and many aspirants use a lecture platform for concepts alongside a test app for practice. Choose based on what you need most right now: learning a topic or testing it.
A freemium JEE app lets you use part of it free, then charges to unlock the rest. SJ JEE works this way: Practice Set 1 and the study tools are free, a one-time 24-hour trial lets you sample the premium features, and two simple plans, 6 months at ₹395 or 1 year at ₹720, unlock everything. There are no separate add-ons or hidden tiers.
Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Unattempted questions score 0. Numerical questions follow the same +4 and −1 scheme under the current 2025–26 pattern, but confirm this in the latest NTA information bulletin. The maximum is 300. NTA then converts your raw marks into a percentile (an NTA score) by comparing you with other candidates in your shift. Use the Marks calculator on this page to see your total and an estimated percentile.
In 2026, the 99 percentile needed roughly 152 to 192 raw marks depending on the shift, with an average of about 174 out of 300. The spread exists because NTA normalises every shift: a tougher paper needs fewer marks for the same percentile. Always compare percentiles, never raw marks across sessions.
Your All India Rank comes from your percentile, not your raw marks. The approximate formula is AIR = (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates. With about 15.4 lakh candidates in 2026, a 99 percentile works out to an AIR near 15,000. If you write both sessions, your best percentile is used.
For recent JoSAA admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, candidates needed at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or a place in the top 20 percentile of their board. Rules can change, so verify in the current JoSAA bulletin. The Class 12 tab on this page calculates your aggregate and checks it against both thresholds.
SJ JEE is available for Android through Google Play. Download links for iPhone and Windows will be added to this page when those versions are released. The calculators on this page work in any browser on a phone or computer.
